I wanted to write a review of my family’s experience with Captain Robert and Calypso Charters. I will begin by saying that this trip, start to finish, is our entire family’s favorite vacation. Like many of you, we did not fully know what to expect and even thought about only going for a few nights just to be sure. However, we booked the full week and it was the best decision we could have possibly made. Captain Robert is the consummate professional. He began the trip by letting us know that he is always there to assist, but would not get in the way of family memories being made. His knowledge of the boat and the surrounding Belizean islands is nothing short of incredible. Our entire process began with excellent communication that outlined my family’s interests, including food/drink likes/dislikes in order to stock the boat with appropriate provisions. Once onboard, Captain Robert and I made final decisions regarding the agenda for the week, including which islands made the most sense for my family. Although he is happy to set off north for anyone interested in the more tourist locales of Caye Caulker and San Pedro, he was incredibly flexible to my family’s desire to go south and see some of the smaller more quiet and pristine islands. For us, this was the perfect direction, including Goff’s Caye, Rendezvous, Bluefield Ranch, Tobacco and South Water Caye.
My family and I just got back from the most amazing week long vacation. With Captain Robert at the helm and Iris in charge of the meals this was a carefree, exciting, and incredible trip. We got to see a lot of the islands and enjoy the water. We scuba dove and frequently snorkeled. The kids loved it! We kayaked, snorkeled with rays and sharks, my husband fished out of San Pedro caught bonefish and we all enjoyed the islands. We got so much out of this trip that after eating our delicious dinner we would fall to sleep with the sound of the water gently lapping our boat. It was an amazing trip and I would recommend Robert\'s Catamaran adventure to anyone who wants to really enjoy Belize! Our family of four, with two adult “children” in their early twenties, had a fabulous week. We would absolutely do this again. From the day we first contacted Capt. Robert, he earned our trust as an experienced captain and for his considerable knowledge of the many Belizean cayes and reefs in the area, as well as for his PADI certifications. Full disclosure, my husband and I are boat owners ourselves, but it was a new experience for us to go to a different part of the world, and to be able to enjoy it so thoroughly. What a treat not to concern ourselves with boat maintenance, trip planning, navigating unknown waters, and provisioning/cooking for everyone. This tropical experience is spectacular, totally away from it all, but also safe in every way. All our SCUBA needs were carefully attended to (many times daily)! As for the underwater experience, my daughter said she felt like she was in the movie “Finding Nemo.” We also kayaked and fished, and enjoyed other innovative water sports. At the end of the day, while my husband and I were content to languish over balmy sunsets (accompanied by our beverages acquired from duty-free when we first arrived); our kids took special delight in being ferried ashore at to islands which offered a little after dinner music. Oh! And I need to mention that Rafaella is a gifted cook and spoiled us rotten. She prepared fresh vegetables and a scrumptious local fruits with every meal. I don’t think I have ever tasted more tender lobster. As for me, the best part was sleeping under the stars (although a cabin was available). This was feasible because the mosquitos typically associated with Central America are not really an issue on the serene azure waters. Glorious!
We had a perfect time with Robert on the boat, it was one of our best vacations and we will definitely come back! 7 days is perfect, because we saw many different spots, wonderful colors, little islands and we never got boring. The whole day we had things to do as snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, diving, cooking, relaxing and visiting some Islands. We loved the Caribbean feeling and are still missing the fresh air ! The best experience was seeing the dolphin family around the boat and feeding the sharks! Wow! Robert is a great captain and I couldn´t imagine somebody who is prepared better than him. He can fix everything if necessary, he is patient and responsible and also a very good cook and Dive Master! His pancakes with banana are the best! When we came into a tropical storm he was perfectly prepared and it was a big adventure for us. The boat and the cabins are nice and very clean! Sometimes Robert needs help and you are in the middle of nowhere. We always took care about the drinking water and we never put on the A/C to not to waste combustible. Anyway it was perfect for us, because we knew that and adapted. Our best decision was not to have a cooking lady because we love cooking, but if you wish there can be one preparing the food and cleaning up. We will come back Robert and I´m sure we will send you some more german, Mexican groups and we were already showing the fotos to everyone! This was our first experience staying on a boat and it was one of the best vacations we have ever had! We had three couples in our group and the boat was the perfect size for us. The cabins were clean and the boat was well stocked. We had an amazing trip from start to finish. Captain Robert was a great host. He knows the area very well and was able to adjust our itinerary to accommodate some windy/choppy weather. We had the best time snorkeling at Hol Chain Marine Reserve with the sharks and stingrays. The captain arranged to bring a guide, Noel, and he was the best--very knowledgeable about the marine life and the best areas to snorkel. The sharks and stingrays were amazing and Noel clearly knew how to handle them. We enjoyed seeing plenty of other marine life during our trip...dolphins swam with our boat and manatees greeted us one morning. We visited several small islands and had plenty of opportunity to snorkel and kayak. We chose to cook our own food and the captain did a fabulous job stocking the boat with exactly what we wanted. We would definitely recommend this as it was the perfect combination of adventure, fun and relaxation. It was an experience we will never forget and we can\'t wait to do it again.
In the past we had charter a bareboat in the BVI, however this year we had decided to get the fully crewed all inclusive and a slightly bigger boat. During our one week, we were able to swim and snorkel everyday, at almost all locations we cruised to. Also, my friends and I, had decided to do some scuba diving, and this turned out to be a perfect boat for the scuba excursion. Rafael was extremely patient and he was able to provide us with all the scuba gear and tanks. We were able to enjoy the dives right off the boat. In Belize, we had some of the most amazing scuba dives imaginable. We had seen a beautiful schools of fish and plentiful of coral life. It was an experience we will never forget, and can\'t wait to go back for some more diving. We had cruised to a new location everyday. One day while cruising from the Tobacco Key Island to the Saltwater Key, we had seen four dolphins playing around our yacht. Our crew was experienced, Captain Rafael knew the navigation and Belize area very well. The crew was extremely helpful, entertaining and fun. All meals were freshly prepared, simple and delicious. We enjoyed sharing our adventure stories at the end of everyday over some refreshments. Captain Rafael\'s skills and knowledge allowed us to be totally relaxed and safe in our journey. We are definitely coming back, the next time will stay longer, one week is just not enough. We can\'t wait to return to Belize, for another wonderful vacation aboard Catamaran Lagoon 43. Looking forward to booking again for next year!!!
The best vacation we\'ve ever had! We spent with Capt. Robert - my husband, me, and our four kids (Ages 19,16, 10 and 9). We cannot stop talking about it and sharing memories. Robert is a tremendous host, Nicole was an amazing cook, we snorkeled, we swam, we played, we visited terrific islands, we toured Lamanai, we fished, we did a scuba lesson, and we spent time relaxing. We highly recommend this vacation to anyone who wants to experience Belize in a unique and wonderful way, to families with children of any age (Who are comfortable in the water), and to adults who want to relax and be peaceful. Rafael is flexible and accommodates scheduling requests, special diets, and questions or all sorts. He made great suggestions and recommendations. He knows many locals and is helpful with whatever you need. He makes his home - your home. Nicole was a great cook - something we had never done is have a cook on a vacation - and it was an awesome addition to not have to worry about a meal. And the boat is perfect for a family of 6 - 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. We would go back and do it again tomorrow!! (Thank you Robert!!)
