Description

Ocean access from two bedroom, two bath home with rooftop deck and spa, fun! Fabulous OCEANFRONT HOME with snorkeling, kayaking, surfing and swimming directly in front of the house! Our August 2014 big storm, Iselle, brought more sand into the bay and the snorkeling has become even better. We are now seeing Eagle Rays with regularity. We've always seen lots of Green Sea Turtles; it's the rays that are a current treat. The warm ponds in the Kapoho area are a special treat too -- unique in all of Hawaii. This is a nice, comfortable, home built with quality materials, and stocked with just about anything you would want. You'll love it. This is a wonderful home for a couple or two couples traveling together. OUTDOORS: Starting at the top-- * Roof Top Deck, with Hot Tub: Talk about a view! There is a 270 degree ocean view--no kidding. Here you will find two chaise lounge chairs and two rocking swivel chairs and a small table. The moon and sun both rise out of the ocean and this is a fantastic place to see that. With a clear night, the stars, and the Milky Way, are awe-inspiring. There's not too many places in the world where you can see stars so close to the horizon. * Lanai off the Great Room: This is your outdoor dining room. There is a large table and dining chairs. Great indoor/outdoor living * Downstairs Lanai: When the weather is really hot, there is a ground level lanai that is just perfect. We have a bench, table and two chairs here, There's a picnic table. INDOORS: * Great Room: This large room is used for many purposes. Comfortable Living Room, cozy Dining Room, extra Bedroom (double bed), TV, large Kitchen and a Bar. The vintage furniture is just right for Hawaii. * Kitchen: The kitchen has top of the line hardware including appliances, faucets, knives, pots & pans. There is also a coffee maker, blender, toaster, mixing bowls, kitchen towels, flatware, serving pieces, and cutting boards. And the bar area, with sink, works well as a serving buffet or a hang-out for the non-chef(s) to keep the chef(s) company. The whole area is very functional, and part of the great room, so nobody misses any of the fun happenings. * Master Bedroom: Large room with a super comfortable King sized bed, built-in dresser and closet, ceiling fan, a chair for reading or relaxing, reading lamps and romantic indirect lighting. Did we mention the HUGE ocean view? This room is quite gorgeous. * Master Bath: Tropical gone fabulous. Shower with two shower-heads, bench, and an ocean view! There?s also an unbelievable piece of granite that makes the walls of the shower look like you are inside a really refreshing volcano. Of course there are towels, soap, and a hair dryer. * Second Bedroom: Comfortable Pillow-Top Queen-sized bed, closet with built in shelf for your luggage, reading lamp, ceiling fan, and a big ocean view. * Second Bathroom: This bathroom is across the hall from the second bedroom, so it functions as the powder room as well. It has a tub/shower, with marble walls, a cool copper sink, and toilet all in a good-sized bathroom. Fluffy towels, hand/body soap, and a hair dryer make it all work well. * Plus -- a bonus room shaded you can hang-out or work. There's a door leading to the back deck, for an extra-spacious feeling. Also: * Garage: This is where all the toys (bicycles, boogie boards, and kayaks) live. There are some stray swim fins, and masks/snorkels, though we can't guarantee we'll have your size. We also have a ping-pong table for family fun. Other information about what we provide: * Hand/Body soap, Dish soap, Dishwasher soap, Laundry soap, Toilet Paper * Hair Dryers * Ironing Board & Iron More details: * The home is built with top-quality materials and attention to every detail. It has stone decking, solid brass ship?s lighting fixtures, and plenty of ventilation-providing windows. The front door is big and beautiful -- 4 feet wide locally-milled eucalyptus with a stained-glass window panel depicting the fish found in the bay. On the inside there is the same brass ship?s lighting, local hardwoods for the cabinets and floors (jacaranda, silky oak), granite, copper, and a beachy white-washed ceiling with indirect and direct lighting. It is friendly, comfortable, and ultimately luxurious. We regret that this house is not really suitable for children between the ages of 1 year and 12 years. Also: To be in compliance with Hawaii State Law (Act 204 Session Laws Hawaii State Legislature, 2015) our Hawaii Tax I. D. No. is W51759221-01

Facts About Destination

NATURE SPOTS & PLACES TO SEE ON THE BIG ISLAND Puna District: Kehena Beach – At this dramatic, clothing optional, black sand beach you won’t see any Japanese tour buses, but you may see explicit body parts. If you’re cool with that, then it’s worth the trip. It’s right off 137 just before the Kulani Honua Resort, you will see a small parking area on the ocean side of the road and a few cars. There is no sign marking the path down the bluff and no stairs, but it’s not a difficult walk down. Be aware the surf can be deceptively rough and waves crashing on the shore can be dangerous. Just be cautious and watch the other swimmers. Dolphins are frequently spotted playing in the beautiful blue water and the coconut palms and tropical setting is quite lovely. Recommended for the adventurous. Pualaa (also called Ahalanui) Warm Pools Beach Park – This county park is the best natural swimming spot in the area. This very large pool is situated right next to the ocean where the salt water gushes in at one end and the warm mineral waters at the other end. It’s a big warm pond on the ocean! The natural setting is gorgeous with coconut palms, picnic tables, showers and porta-toilets. Again this is on 137 and is well marked. This is a great spot for the whole family. Pohoiki Surf Break – Considered by many to be the best surf spot in lower Puna! Not really any sandy beach but it’s an easy entry into the water and “Bowls” is an incredible tube ride. Just up from Pualaa Warm Pools Beach Park. Stay on red road (137) and you can’t miss it. There is also a boat launch and an amazing bay which has great waves too. There is a new park here now!! Kapoho Tide Pools & Champagne Pond - Heading south on 137 leads past Kapoho-Kai Road. This road goes to one of the most unusual locations on the Big Island. Dozens and dozens of spring-fed, brackish pools and tide-pools, some volcanically heated, are strewn thoughout the area known as Kapoho Tidepools. Champagne Pond is located in the gated community of Kapoho Beach lots, but you can park and walk inside. You will find a calm, protected ocean inlet filled with crystal clear water. A scattering of fish and many sea turtles (I have seen 9 at one time) await. The ocean water is also geothermally heated (about 90 degrees on top) and changes with the tide. Volcano Area – Volcano National Park – This is a must and has something for everyone. The Thurston Lava Tube is a big cave created by the lava flow. The caldera and rim of the volcano is spectacular. Drive down chain of craters road to the end and hike to the lava flow. Be sure to take good walking shoes, water, and if you go at night a flashlight. Kileaua Caverns Tour – tours of caves made from lava flows! Amazing! Hilo Area - Richardson’s State Beach Park – A nicely protected black sand beach that’s good for swimming and snorkeling. Lovely setting with large trees, ponds, picnic tables and showers. Safe for children. Located on the south end of Hilo Bay. Akaka Falls – A stunning botanical garden with one of the largest waterfalls on the island. Take a picnic and spend some time nature watching. About 15 minutes north of Hilo on the main highway. Rainbow Falls – Just minutes above Hilo – an awesome double waterfall Helicopter tours from Hilo airport – great experience especially on a clear day! West side of the island Hapuna Beach – voted the best white sand beach on the Big Island. Good swimming, boogie boarding, and body surfing, as well as snorkeling. Captain Cook’s Bay & Monument – in south Kona in Kealakakua in one of the most scenic bays you will ever see. A small black sand beach, but the water is like an aquarium with many varieties of tropical fish. North Coast Waipio Valley – on the Hamakua Coast this valley has a staggering look out that will make you a believer. This was the site of the last battle of King Kamahamaha’s unification of the island. Legend has it that sometimes the spirits of dead warriors appear on the valley wall. Horseback riding tours are available! Waimea – charming town on the North Coast that reminds one of the Pacific Northwest. The Hawaiian cowboys, the paniolos, who inhabit the area have horse shoes and rodeos. The Parker Ranch, the largest in the USA, takes up much of the surrounding area. South Point Punaluu Black Sand Beach – beautiful beach where you can often sea giant sea turtles!

We had the time of our lives!!

Aloha Pat! Unfortunately we are home! We had the time of our lives!! Words canât express how beautiful Kapoho (and the whole island really) was. We seriously did not want to leave. If we didnât have 3 dogs and 3 cats at home waiting for us â we might have actually stayed. We went to the Kona area after we left your wonderful homeâ¦it was nice but we definitely prefer the Hilo side of the island. We brought several real estate publications home with us and are brimming with ideas of how exactly we can change our lives and move there. I bet that happens a lot. We definitely hope to be able to go back and stay at Pualani again!! And also would recommend it to anyone who asked. We will put a glowing âreviewâ on one or more of our websites. Mahalo Nicki

Nicely decorated and well equipped!

Hi, Pat â I received the refund on our security deposit in the cute fish motif stationary. Mahalo. I have been meaning to email you to tell you we really enjoyed the place, just everything about it was super. We snorkeled in the pools and saw lots of turtles, which was so great. What a unique and cool area of the island. We also loved Pahoa and had a GREAT Thai meal in the funky restaurant furthest east of the two. We would recommend your place to anyone. It was nicely decorated and well equipped, too. Thanks for all!!! --Cathy

Enjoyed our stay at Pualani

Aloha Pat, We really enjoyed our stay at Pualani. It was cozy and comfortable. All the gadgets and facilities were in good condition and the ocean view was excellent. We explored the entire east coast of the island. Especially liked the hot pool on 137, black beach with hike down the lava rocks, the tropical vegetation, tidal pools and swimming area near the house, etc. We saw lot of colored fish and other marine life. We also enjoyed cooking with the unusual tropical vegetables (have heard of frsh drum sticks for soup?) with spices. The pine apples, papaya and the small banana were also fantastic. I read two of your books, in addition to the books we brought with us. I also want to thank you for letting us hang at your Aloha house on Sunday. Diane really liked the 180 deg ocean view and the fantastic breeze outside. We saw sea turtles from the lava rock backyard. Thank you for sending us the deposit back. We were expecting a lot of rain to dampen our vacation. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it rained at night and occasional down pours during the day lasting only for short periods. It was a long trip back to Boston, but this vacation was worth all the travel. We hope to come back to Hawaii soon. Away from the hustle and bustle

Hi Pat, Thank you very much for letting us stay at your beautiful home in Kapoho. We enjoyed our stay very much and had lots of fun at the hot springs and the steam caves. It was so convenient to the things we wanted to see yet lots of privacy and away from the hustle and bustle of Hilo. I received the deposit refund yesterday. Thanks again for everything. Mahalo, Paul and Yasuyo Ledford

It was the real Hawaii

We just got back this evening from the Big Island. I just wanted to thank you again for accommodating us in such short notice. Your Pualani Home was so wonderful. . .it was the real \"Hawaii\". I love the open wood beam ceiling and the veranda that surrounds the upper floor is a great feature. The view, the sound of the ocean, and all the comforts of home helped make our stay so pleasant. Your home is so perfectly situtated. . .Champagne Pond, Kapoho Tide Pools, surf spots like Isaac Hale and Pohoiki. . .I can go on and on. I just wish we had discovered Pualani sooner. . .I would\'ve love to stay there the entire 11 days! You are lucky to have such a great find! I will be sure to pass on a good word to all our friends. We hope to return soon. Mahalo, Alice guest name: Alice Jeffreys

Best, Natsuki Hayashi

Great place to come home to!

Thanks Pat, we did enjoy our stay!! In fact, we loved it! Kona side was fun for the start but then we were glad to escape the vog. We zoomed all around on your bikes, loved Champagne Pond as our last evening stop each night, and really loved a couple of spots north of Hilo (one where thereâs the rope swing into the river and another where we boogie boarded all day). We got lucky with the weather I guess, never had rain once! We feel like we did it all and had a great place to come âhomeâ to at night. My husband wishes we could have some geckos in our house too! Thanks again so much, it was a great vacation! Valerie

Pualani was a perfect home base

Pualani was a perfect home base for our adventures with sea turtles, volcanoes, bromeliads and so much more. Champagne Pond was also a great treat. Thank you for sharing your home with us and I\'m sure our vacation will be remembered for a long time to come. Mahalo from the Paulot family!

Nice to see real Hawaii!

I canât explain how much we enjoyed ourselves and your home. The people there are wonderful, it was so nice to see real Hawaii. We had such a good time my sons want to go back next year. Guess Iâll have to start saving. Thanks again, Kathy

We hope to get back some day!

Thank you for letting us use your wonderful house! The kids loved collecting fallen coconuts in the garden, and the spa was great to get warm after a long hike on the volcano in the sometimes heavy rain. The short distance to the recent lava flow at Kalapana allowed us to there twice -- both at day time and time time - Marvelous! We hope to get back here some day! Loved the geckos! Sincerely, Lotte, Peter, Margreth, Dante, Tobias

Convenient location to snorkeling sn

Pualani is a wonderful get away from the cold of Pennsylvania. Loved the view of the ocean. Weather was delightful. Convenient location to snorkeling. Bikes were fun. We had great weather. Enjoyed Pahoa & Hilo. Thai food & good pizza in Pahoa tops. Pescatore in Hilo top-rate Italian food - recommend highly. Take a night trip to view lava - amazing. Mahalo & Aloha! Loretta Supplee

Felt like invited guests!

Thank you so much! We thoroughly enjoyed your home & that part of the island, wish we\'d stayed there longer! Felt more like invited guests than renters with the bikes & that lovely quiet neighborhood. Not as happy in Capt Cooke, partly with the rental & partly with so much driving to do almost anything! Wish we\'d rented from you again on this side! Thanks again for your great communication & generosity, it\'s greatly appreciated! Kathryn

Wonderful stay on the Big Island

Thank you for a wonderful stay on the Big Island. We had a great time. Your home was the perfect location for our stay although we were on the go most of the time. Thanks for sending our refund so promptly. It has been a pleasure coordinating our stay with you. You can be sure if we travel to the Big Island again, or know of anyone planning on visiting, we will recommend your home. Sharon

Hilight of the trip

Hi Pat Thanks. I received the refund a few days ago. I absolutely loved your place in Kapoho. It was definitely the hilight of the trip for me. It was extremely humid (sometimes we could see our footprints on the floor). I had never experienced anything like that before. I loved it. The days were sultry in a lovely way. I even enjoyed the crazyness of the coqui frogs at night. (though I think they might drive a person mad eventually...but probably in a good way) My favorite part of the day was waking up to the wrap around window view of the palm trees and the ocean and watching the light change. We also discovered snorkeling there! How amazing and easy. During the rest of our trip we snorkeled at several other places but we both preferred the tide pools. (they are even better than Captain Cook) We walked there everyday...it was a lovely walk (we didn\'t use the bikes at all as it turned out) And of course the market north of Pahoa was amazing! an abundance of inexpensive tropical flowers and fruit and clothing etc. Sadly our stay was too short. We didn\'t even have time to use the hot tub. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous home with us. Donna and Stan ps I have attached a photo of our tropical bouquet on your deck.

Always dreamed of this kind of place where the breeze blew right off the ocean and into the house

Thanks for sharing Pualani with us Pat & Andy. We had a great experience! I\'d always dreamed of this kind of place where the breeze blew right off the ocean and into the house. And the location is ideal for touring this part of the island. The lava flow was awesome, Champage Pond a magical experience and Hilo a delight. Ning\'s Thai is one of the best I\'ve ever been to (and that\'s a lot). We counted 5 geckos and loved their company. and the rain on the roof made sleeping peaceful. We hope to return soon!
