We built the cottage as our own retreat. It is perched over the ocean with floor to ceiling glass everywhere, and spectacular views from every room. The finishes and decor are best described as upscale maritime eclectic, with vibrant colours, and local art and antiques highlighting the tasteful furnishings; and there are seashells - lots of seashells. It's also a full 10 feet from the hardwood floors to the pine tongue and groove ceilings adding to the airy feel. The floors which are maritime Larch,  came directly from a small mill in Cape Breton Island.

Relaxing at Stonehill  usually begins in the great room. Gather around the huge open wood burning fireplace on the main level, or the ceramic cast iron propane stove downstairs in the expansive family room. Choose a hardcover book from the library and tuck into the window seat. Take in an HD movie or concert DVD in the family room, play one of our 'cottage' games, listen to music in any of 4 speaker locations inside and out, or surf the web on our wireless network.

Our gourmet kitchen and outdoor cooking facilities are completely equipped, with stainless appliances, and a polished maple island, to prepare everything from steamed lobster, to grilled fish or steak on the BBQ, to brewing expresso and capuccino. The kitchen is stocked with a wide array of spices, herbs, condiments, coffees and teas.

Move your activities outdoors, in white wicker on the screened porch under the ceiling fan, or have breakfast on the wrap around, glass railed deck. Wave to the to the lobstermen checking their traps, or watch our neighbourhood  bald eagle and ospreys soar. Hike right out the door on Kilmarnock's trails, stopping at one of the  ponds, the picnic area, or continue to to the mountain top for the best view in the county. Take long walks, or visit the secret cove beach to collect shells at low tide - all without getting into your car.

Sleeping accomodations on the main level include the master suite with king bed and private covered porch, and a second queen bedroom. Both access the luxury appointed ensuite with rainhead shower, clawfoot tub, and 2 sinks. The powder room is also close by, as is the fully equipped laundry room. All rooms are complete with plush towels, and luxury linens.

Downstairs the bright and spacious queen and twin/king rooms both look out to the ocean, share a 4 piece bath with a wonderful 6 jet shower, and have their own walkout on this level.

Everything we have done is to make Stonehill an inspiring and relaxing retreat for ourselves, and for our guests.
