Dear People, My name is Gianni Franceschi, born in Lanusei Sardinia. At the age of 18 years I came to The Netherlands where since 1976 I\'m working for The Dow Chemical Company in Terneuzen. Beside my own job, I began renting some houses of family and good friends of mine. The owner on place, will welcome you with open arms. Though, I do have all the responsibility for a smooth and proper running of your vacation and as intermediary \'tween you and the owner of the property.

Payment Terms: Within 7 days after receiving our confirmation on your booking request you have to pay 30% of the total rent deposit. On arrival at your vacation home, the balance due has to be paid to the owner. 

Cancellation 9 months to three weeks time before arriving 30% of the total rent payable. If canceled less than the above term is 50% of the total rent payable.

Regarding a withdrawal of your booking in case of serious illness, we can make an agreement that only 15% of the total amount will be paid from your side. Although when demonstrable with an authentic and signed medical certificate (no copies), which can be sent to us for further verification.

Why it is Famous ?

Lanusei is the most important town in Sardinia\'s Ogliastra region and is situated in a charming position atop Gennargentu ridges that slope towards the coast. Its territory is known for its environment, including a natural amphitheatre in which its forested areas, archaeological aspects and the town\'s most important monuments are located. The Selene Forest is surely the most visited tourist destination. Lush ilex and oak spread out over a large part of the area where true botanical rarities are concentrated along with wildlife species. There are also a few refreshments areas for visitors. The location can also be reached by the \"Trenino verde\" (green train) which, for the most part of the year, allows visitors to enjoy the healthy air, typical of the area. Numerous springs with pure, fresh water that supply the nearby Alto Flumendosa Lake are also present. A Nuraghe, Tomba dei Giganti, sacred well and other pre-historic objects area hidden by the vegetation. We also recommend visits to Mount Armidda, well known due to the presence of an Astronomy Observatory, and Mounts Tricoli and Paulis where Punic-Roman evidence has been discovered.

Facts About Destination

The entire area has signs of the past, traces belonging to the most remote times. However, it is the most recent history that has had a significant, instrumental effect on the town, already perceptible at the end of the nineteenth-century. The Salesiani\'s role in culture, with the opening of schools and high grammar schools, had a positive social impact, thus making the town an important aggregation centre for surrounding towns. We suggest visiting the Salesiani\'s College, the attached church of St. John Bosco, the library and the archives building. It has been the bishop\'s see since 1927. The cathedral is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene who is honoured with big celebrations the last Sunday of July. The other important festivities are for Don Bosco (first Sunday in June) and for the Saints Cosima and Damian (Sept. 27th), celebrated in the homonymous small, rural church. Ogliastra, a fairly recent discovery with its beautiful coasts and mountainous interior. Its territory, wedged between sea and mountain, offers a vast array of unique landscapes. A paradise of remarkable beauty situated along the eastern side of Sardinia, where nature is at its best.

How to reach

It is easy to reach Sardinia ! Sardinia lies in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, few hours far from Africa, Northern and Eastern Europe, British Islands. It is connected to the major Italian and European Airports and Ports. Travelling by air Sardinian airports are: Cagliari-Elmas, Olbia-Costa Smeralda, Alghero-Fertilia. Sardinia is served by the following National Airlines: Meridiana, Alitalia and Air One. Alitalia operates almost all over Italy and Europe; Meridiana provides connections to several Italian Cities like Bologna, Verona, Pisa, Turin, Rome and Naples as well as connections to several European Cities. Air One operates daily flights from Alghero and Cagliari to Milan. Many low-cost airlines operates in Sardinia, connecting it to the main European Capital Cities.

The following is a list of the Public Transport operators, some of whose services are utilised in the itinerary ideas presented in this site. These represent many, but by no means all, of the main public transport providers in Sardinia. The fact that we suggest the service of one operator over another should not in any way be interpreted as meaning that we think that the selected service is any better or worse than any other. In most cases the decision is based purely on what works best for the itinerary. Some of the following transport operators websites do not contain English versions. Purely for the purposes of providing information which we hope will be of assistance we have included here a few notes detailing how we go about accessing timetable information from the sites without english translations. Throughout this site the following transport Providers are referred to by the names indicated below in bold. ARST (Azienda RegionaleSarda Trasporti)- Operates many bus services all over the Island. ://www.arst.sardegna.it FdS (Ferrovie della Sardegna) - Operates many bus services and certain small gauge train services. (This is the same company that operates the Trenino Verde Tourist Trains from Arbatax to Cagliari in the summer months, but it has also other services which run all year). From Jan 2006, FdS also operates on the routes connecting major cities which were (until its closure at the end of 2005) operated by PANI. As of late 2008, all FdS services have come under the control of ARST. As at early 2009 the FdS website continues to operate and is the only source of information on these services. ://www.ferroviesardegna.it PANI (Organizzazione Pani Sardegna)- Services terminated late 2005. Transport connections now operated by FdS. FS (Trenitalia) - Operates the main train services connecting Cagliari to Sassari with a branch line to Olbia. ://www.trenitalia.com TIRRENIA - Operates Ferry services between Sardinia and mainland Italy. ://www.tirrenia.it MOBY LINES - Operates Ferry services between Sardinia and mainland Italy. ://www.mobylines.it FMS - Operates several bus services in the South West of the Island centered on the city of Iglesias. As of late 2008, all FMS services have come under the control of ARST. As at early 2009 the FMS website continues to operate (although it is now called ARST Sede Iglesias Carbonia) and is the only source of information on these services. ://www.ferroviemeridionalisarde.it DP (Deplanu Redentours) - Operates a service between Alghero, Alghero Airport and Nuoro as well as a service connecting Olbia Airport and Nuoro. Precautions

Ogliastra\'s coastline contains beautiful oases of sand wedged between the sea and the surrounding cliffs, and is one of the Mediterranean\'s most charming marine landscapes. Starting from the north, we come to sandy bays (cale) reachable only by boat or on foot, such as the famous Cala Luna, Cala Sisine, Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzé; further south we find interesting beaches such as those at Tancau, Orrì, Cea, the Marinas di Barisardo and Cardedu, Coccorrocci and the Golfo di Sarrala. The other magical side to Ogliastra is the Nature, which is still unspoilt and which gradually changes as you climb over the hills to arrive at the mountains of the Gennargentu, whose varied landscapes and rare beauty are very satisfying to gaze upon. A land which is best appreciated by the attentive and curious observer, rather than the normal tourist. In terms of history and archaeology, the whole area is very worthwhile to visit, with many Nuraghi, Domus de Janas, Fonti Sacre, Tombe dei Giganti and Menhir. On foot, by bike, on horseback, by car or 4WD you can follow trekking routes to discover places which you won\'t easily forget. If, on the other hand, you wish to see the splendid Ogliastra coastline from the sea, there are boats to take you there. Only the combination of sights and scents manages to fully describe Ogliastra\'s magic and harmony. You can\'t say you\'ve really visited Sardinia if you don\'t spend at least a few days in Ogliastra.

Lifestyle

The archaeological legacy on the territory covers all the periods from early Neolithic to Roman times. The most significant finds are from the Nuragic era: 6 nuraghi, 2 giants̢۪ tombs and about 14 areas where settlements are supposed to have existed. The most important archaeological and environmental site is Seleni, an ancient settlement perched on a rocky outcrop with, at a brief distance, beautiful giants̢۪ tombs. Ogliastra, with the beauty of its coastline and mountainous interior, is Sardinia\'s most recently-discovered tourist destination. This corner of the island, bounded by the mountains and the sea, offers an unlimited number of unique attractions for visitors. A paradise of remarkable beauty situated on the east coast of Sardinia: here Nature offers the best of itself. The name Ogliastra is said to come from the Olivastri, olive trees, found all over this area, though others say it\'s derived from the Agugliastra (or Pedra Longa), the limestone monolith on the coastline of Baunei.
