Description

Welcome to Hearthwind, a small organic farm nestled in a quiet southwest Portland neighborhood. Here you can rest in the quiet and privacy of a country setting but still have easy access to downtown Portland, and the many unique attractions and neighborhoods of the greater Portland area.

The house sits high above the gardens with large picture windows so there is always lots of natural light and great views into the private yards.

There are 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a spacious living room with fireplace, a well-appointed country kitchen, and a dining room which opens onto a grand covered deck .

Dine in the garden, take a quiet moment under the apple tree, explore the greenhouse and the many paths that wind throughout the gardens, listen to the frogs in the evening.

Hearthwind is a working farm with chickens, rabbits, bees, greenhouse with aquaponics system, large vegetable garden and extensive perennial beds. You might see me working in the garden or caring for the animals. I am available for questions, or to retrieve a rabbit to hold, but I will always respect your privacy as I understand that this is your personal vacation. I live in a separate apartment in the lower level of the house.

Incredible oasis!

Wow! Linda has created a lush green over-the-top beautiful haven in an already lush green city. Her farm/garden is absolutely remarkable -- what a treat to be immersed in such an alive and gorgeous place. The house is warm and very comfortable in every way. Decor is cozy/elegant/artsy, and every detail has been considered. Highlights include: sweet bunnies to hold! Fresh-baked artisanal bread! Just-laid eggs! Plush soft bedding! Himalayan salt lamps! Fresh veggies in the garden! Awesome aquaculture greenhouse! Jungly seating areas out back! Huge patio overlooking it all! Linda was great to communicate with, and her energy creates a fantastic vibe throughout the entire place. Also, very close to downtown Portland -- just a 15-20 minute drive, but feels like you're hundreds of miles away from 'civilization' because the farm/garden is just so enveloping. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Hearthwind is a sanctuary

Hearthwind felt like a sanctuary. My partner and I stayed in the Orchid room. The house was clean and lovely and filled with natural light. I spent much time outside soaking in the peacefulness of the yard and the beautiful garden. Linda was very easy to communicate with and respected our privacy. She is also an amazing cook and we delighted in her bread!

Access to Everything

I am writing to share what I most enjoyed about my stay at Hearthwind, a half-acre organic farm west of Portland. Quite apart from the amenities and hospitality, I enjoyed the easy access to the routes to the Oregon coast, to the mountains, to the gorge and Washington hot springs, which I love, and to the abundance of Portland forested areas, parks, and cultural amenities both children and adults sometimes like to sample while they are vacationing. But if I wanted to just relax around the home, there was a hiking path within five or six blocks and woods for the public two miles or so east as well as Multnomah Village, which even Portlanders see as a special place for gift and toy shops and dining. No, I did not want to vacation and spend my time in a Mall, but if you relapse, drive a mile west and voila, Washington Square Mall. A regular bus runs down town with a stop five blocks or so away. I tried the Southwest Community Center for its hot tub and the setup for swimming. Being able to go on as a drop-in was great. The best feature for the relaxed emersion in a natural setting was the raised deck for lounging, dining, barbequing - overlooking the most amazingly farmed half acre I have ever seen. More gorgeous varieties of plants, shrubs, flowers, fruit trees, whatever. The vegetable gardening is pretty to look at, and the foliage all around is usually aflutter with local bird species. Add the sound of clucking chickens and the bunnies are animated companions also enjoying the place. Linda, the urban organic lady-farmer is methodically, yet whimsically imaginative about setting up a great kitchen, if you plan to dine in and snack a lot, as I did. Things are tasteful, but never ostentatious. The room I slept in and the house in general is comfortably classy. As for the host, Linda, I always felt welcomed to join her or ignore her as I followed my own whims on vacation.
