Having been to Matapalo numerous times in the past we were bringing our 2 grandchildren for the 1st time. Casa Dos Rios totally fit our needs as a family of 8. Beds were extremely comfortable, the mesh netting, reading light and fan were much appreciated after a long day exploring and playing. Living and dining area were more than adequate for our large group to get together. Linens, towels and bedding were very good also. We really loved the location and the views were lovely. The memories we will share with the family and seeing the grandkids ages 3 and 5 when they had their first much anticipated sight of the monkeys will forever remain as one of the most precious times. We saw all four species everyday come right by the deck where we had our coffee. The kids would wake up with the howlers and stay up to watch the squirrels, spiders and capuchins on their daily feeding schedule. In all our visits to the Osa we have never experienced the monkeys in quite this way. the dinner waiting for us was much appreciated and savored after our long drive from San Jose. Olmer and Maru took care of all our needs and we enjoyed their company. We would love to return.
My finance and I stayed at Casa Dos Rios for the first 2 weeks of December of 2017 and we enjoyed every second of our stay. We arrived after dark and with the directions Melanie gave, we found the house with no issues. My fiancé and I were greeted with smiles, hugs and a tour of the house to help us settle in. They both are truly good people. Very nice and accommodating. We enjoyed playing a few games with them after dinner some nights! The house is absolutely beautiful! Very clean and kept clean by the house maid twice a week with new sheets and towels. Beds are very comfortable. You\'re in the rain forest so there are bugs, therefore I loved having the nets on the bed, we never had a bug problem in the beds. We saw all 4 monkeys, macaws, toucans and much more every day at he house. The sunrise was breath taking to watch while drinking coffee on the porch or while relaxing on the hammocks. We listened to the waves crash at night and the howler monkeys every morning. There is a river with a natural swimming pool right by the house that we swam in every day. We enjoyed zip lining, a mangrove tour and we visited the national forest as well, but honestly, we saw all the animals right in our front yard at the house, so really it was just an expensive yet beautiful hike, which Melanie and Kim told me but we went anyway. We also hiked to 2 waterfalls by the house. One was in walking distance and the other we drove to and got out and hiked. The bar by the house had a great vibe and excellent food. We cooked some nights and other nights we had a chef so we could taste that authentic Costa Rican food which was delicious! Over all we never had a dull moment, just sitting at the house not doing anything was so relaxing and like I said, you see animals everyday! I would definitely recommend to friends and family! Thank you Melanie and Kim so much for accommodating us while we stayed in your beautiful home. We will visit again (:
We loved our stay and the house is beautiful. We saw monkeys from the deck each day and our family had plenty of space. You are truly in the jungle so your clothes will be a little damp and there are some lovely visitors like bugs and bats. - exactly what we expected. We went with a guide Mike Johnson (the irishman) to Corcavado and had a wonderful adventure hiking and driving through rivers. We will definitely be back.
We decided to broadcast an invite to our Facebook friends, to join us for one week at CDR. The people who responded and joined us (4 of them) absolutely loved their week. Between the marvels of nature seen from the windows of the house and the company of one another, all went away with great memories and intentions to return and share this place with family and friends later. We are the owners of Casa Dos Rios, and wanted to use our own vacation rental to see what it might need and to get a sense of what our guests experience by living in our house. We loved the experience so much that we decided to offer this again next year at the same time, so that we can get to know those who take us up on this offer, and so that we can treat ourselves to the atmosphere and rich wood surfaces, plus open-air kitchen and view that our Casa Dos Rios offers. We came away knowing what to add and how to make the next guests\' stay even better in the future! Because we care about making a vacation memorable and exquisite, we do many things like suggesting the best there is to do in the area, offer meal service, accompany our guests as guides on hikes and waterfall expeditions and have on-site managers to stand ready to assist in any way needed. I will encourage the four guests who joined us for this week, to also write their reviews.
We stayed at this property as a mixed group of families. If you like wildlife, you will be absolutely amazed. We were woken by scarlet macaws and howler monkeys. Just sitting on the top balcony we saw toucans, squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, agouti, a massive snake (boa?), scarlet macaws, caracara plus alot of additional birds we couldn\'t identify. The house is right in front of a nice little rocky beach which has kayaks. Melanie (the host) is absolutely amazing and helped us daily with suggestions for tours etc. She is a wonderfully inspiring woman! The house is at a remote location, so don\'t expect nightlife etc. However, if you are in Costa Rica for the jungle experience you will find it all here! The house itself is very comfortable, and clean and airy. Highly recommended!
