The McKinney family has lived in The Bahamas for generations. When she was seventeen, Doon was teaching school in a remote village in Botswana. She fell in love with the idea of living in a round house. When she returned to The Bahamas she decided to move from Nassau to the remote and untouched island of Eleuthera and build her own round house on a 14 acre sea to sea estate running the entire width of the island.
This is a perfect place to escape your everyday hectic lives. The breathtaking scenery and the nature that surrounds you by the beach, leaves you at peace. As newlyweds on our honeymoon, my husband and I enjoyed everyday minute of our stay. The food is also amazing! Shout out to Abdul @ 1648 for the great hospitality! We would definitely come back!
This is our second stay at the Round House and words can\'t express how much we love staying here! Doon happened to be staying next store with her granddaughter and they were both so lovely! We can\'t wait to make plans to stay again next summer! Don\'t hesitate and book this amazing Round House!
My husband and I stayed at the Casuarina Bay Round House for our week-long honeymoon. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in visiting Eleuthera! True to its name, the house is circular, with gorgeous tall windows, a wrap-around porch, and very high ceilings. It felt quite spacious inside - a comfortable bed, living room area, dining table and chairs, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, and a loft with two additional beds. Everything was clean and very well taken care of. The house was built but its owner, Doon, and is filled with personal touches - from shell collections to colorful photographs of the island. The ocean was just steps outside of the door. The beach was secluded and peaceful - crystal clear water and a small reef just a little swim off the coast. French Leave Beach, which is about a five minute walk away, was also stunning. The cabana provided shade and was a great spot to dry off in the breeze and listen to the melodic hum of the waves. The beach was also beautiful at night - especially under the full moon. The house is about a 5-10 minute drive to Governor\'s Harbour where one can access grocery and liquor stores, a gas station, and several restaurants. The backstreets in this area were beautiful with crisp white houses and overflowing vibrant flower bushes. While some of these restaurants are a further drive from the house we would recommended Tippy\'s, Pascal\'s, The Rainbow Inn, and The Northside Inn. The Cove also offers day passes for access to their infinity pool, beachfront access, kayaks etc. We spent our final day with James Dunham on a private boat tour - we swam with sea turtles, spotted Dolphins, tried our hand at spear fishing, and dove for conch shells and sea glass. We would definitely recommended something of this sort as another way to see all that Eleuthera has to offer!
We celebrated 6 gorgeous Eleuthera days at Round House. The highlight of our visit being a friendly dolphin coming to swim with us as we were snorkeling right on the beach in front of the house! We enjoyed Twin Cove and French Leave beaches also, which are within walking distance. Exploring several Caribbean side beaches, Governor\'s Harbour and all the sights to see on the north side of the island made our days busy, adventurous, and FUN. Having this beautiful cottage to come back to each day or just staying there all day and enjoying all that this place has to offer was just divine! Doon could not have been more helpful. She\'s a wonderful host! We can\'t wait to return!!
Terrific family vacation at the Round House away from all the noise! Spectacular secluded beach 20 steps away and right in between the famous French Leave and Twin Coves beaches. The snorkeling is world class - sea turtles, eel, shark, grouper and countless other tropical fish among large coral formations. Roundhouse was plenty adequate for our family of five with kids (12, 13 and 16) in the loft. Very warm and inviting space with the wood floors, walls and ceilings and furnishings. All in all, a really chill and comfortable place to be and hang out or with the Honda CRV rental to get out and explore all of Eleuthera....so much to see and do. Be sure to check out the fish fry in Governor\'s Harbor. Many thanks to Taja and Doon for all their hospitality. We hope to see you again next year!
My wife and I have stayed in many places around the world, and I must say that our 2 weeks at the Roundhouse was a truly wonderful experience and one of the best two weeks we have had. This place is loaded with soul and charm. It is the opposite of a pre-fab condo environment. This is the real thing, built with creativity and love and reflects he owners artistic and joyful personality. It is also very comfortable and practical. Yes it is a bit remote, but that is a big part of its value. The beach and ocean there is stunning and almost entirely private almost all the time. The swimming and snorkeling there is terrific and safe. The community nearby in Governor\'s Harbor, is small but friendly and interesting. We used this time for relaxing, reading , writing, exercise and general all around rejuvenation and it was perfect for that purpose. We want to come back yearly now and try to keep that remarkable vibe going.
The Round House is the perfect romantic getaway - simple elegance, eco-friendly, and from practically anywhere in the house you have spectacular views and fresh ocean breezes. We were there the latter part of November and didn\'t need the AC at all - just used the ceiling fans and open (fortunately screened) windows. We enjoyed having the extra outdoor shower, especially post-swim and to rinse our gear. The fabulous wrap-around porch offers some shade option(s) any time of day, which is essential. It\'s not exactly on the beach, but great just the same for hanging out. The lovely cabana down the path was a great spot to hangout, sip coffee in the morning, read a book, and watch the waves. The beaches in both directions are spectacular, so it\'s easy to walk from the house and explore. The water was a bit rough during our visit, so some times we just went to the other side of the island, less than 10 minutes away. The Round House is off the beaten path, though close enough to restaurants and town to make outings easy and enjoyable. We recommend a 4WD vehicle for practically anywhere you go - the vehicle available at the Round House (for additional cost) provides good, simple function. We also appreciated that a cooler and freezer blocks were provided. The natural decor and personal touches throughout the house and grounds are beautiful. Really enjoyed our host - Doon - a perfect balance of respecting our privacy and offering us great service and friendship. We would definitely go back.
