My father was from Maine. We would come to Maine for summer vacations. Our favorite Aunt had a cottage on a small island. We would stay there with many of our cousins. Just had such great Maine memories had to get a place for my family. Built the Chalet in 1994 with a friend from Wisconsin who I grew up with. He brought his crew and constructed the Chalet on Land my grandfather owned. Traveled to Maine from Madison, Wisconsin with my family for many summers. Now the kids grown up they still come to Chalet for summer vacations. Lee Howard purchased this Chalet in 1994 Why Lee Howard chose Wayne I built the Chalet on land my grandfather used to pasture his cattle on in the 1920's. He would cut timber and use it to build our relative's houses. In addition, he would cut ice out from the lake and he stored it using saw dust in the ice house at his farm in Leeds, Maine. He would sell the ice in the summer months to cool milk. What makes this Chalet unique Quiet and peaceful setting with great scenery. MANY ACTIVITIES ON SITE. FULL SIZE BASKETBALL COURT & TENNIS COURT, GAME ROOM, VOLLEY BALL, TETHER BALL, HORSESHOES, SWIMMING, WITH WATER SLIDE OFF PIER DOCK FLOAT, CA.

The Howard home was more than we expected for our family vacation. The house is fully stocked, sheets, towels, pillows, etc., even the kitchen has essentials and then some, I always bring tons of stuff from home, cheese grater, wine opener, etc., none of it was necessary, they think of everything! This is all on top of paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, pontoon boat (which was great to cruise around in and swim in the pond from), games, grounds, etc. The amount of space in the house was more than we needed, but it was nice to have space to spread out. There was something for everyone to do and the little town of Wayne does not disappoint either. Super cute general store and you MUST go to \"Tubbie\'s\" for ice cream, we admittedly went more than once. Mr. Howard was available on a moment\'s notice for questions and guidance while we were there. Terrific experience and super grateful that we had the time together as a family. Thank you from the Doug & Stacy Gooding & Family, Beverly, MA.
The word wonderful fall far short in describing this place for terrific vacation. The house, the boats , the fishing ,the lake, the trails, the hills , the streams and every other activity you can imagine are here .Most of all the love of our 16 member family. All came to this beautiful Howard\'s home and everyone loved it so much. The memory created by this week together is forever affixed in time.
This was a perfect location for our family reunion! All the amenities we could ask for were there, especially for our 11 young grandchildren. It was just a ball the whole time and would definitely go back again. I loved the remote woodsy location, and listening to the loons. Access to the lake with the available kayaks and pontoon boat was really the highpoint. Our athletic family requires a variety of activities and they were all there!! I loved that we didn\'t have to leave the property for anything except food.
This remote place was perfect for our extended family of 24, 11 of them children under 7. No neighbors were close by to be disturbed by the 6 two-three year olds that took turns with crying. The playground swings and merry-go-round were used daily. We enjoyed practically everything:canoes, kayaks, water slide, pontoon boat, game room tennis court, basketball court, volleyball, and the campfire area for S\'mores. The lake was comfortable for swimming(not too warm or cold in mid-August) and the islands fun to explore. I loved the loons, easily seen and heard. The kitchen was convenient with plenty of dishes to feed the gang. The chalet was clean with comfortable furniture and plenty of room to spread out or be together. Lee Howard, owner, was easily reached during the week, and eager to make sure we all had a good time. We would definitely return.
Sad to be back to life in the fast lane.Every other year we look for a large home to rent around the Augusta area as we have extended family all around Maine . We had 23 people travel from northern Virginia this year to rent this home from the Howard\'s. We have rented several different homes in the Belgrade lake area,Cobbossee,Androscoggin, and China lake .I have no doubt that I will look no further, as this home will be our final resting place on a lake in Maine to vacation . I was in contact with the owner on several occasions .He always got right back to me regarding any question or concern . Mr Howard even let my family meet him at the house to tour it while he was there winterizing it. The Howard\'s home is absolutely perfect for a large group of all ages.We ranged from ages 1 -75. Even with such a large group we NEVER felt crowded or bored here no matter what the weather happened to be . The house was VERY clean upon arrival.Nice leather furniture. The kitchen was awesome with an incredible Viking stove. All the bedrooms were very comfortable with nice sheets. The water pressure in all the showers was outstanding. The loft was huge and just perfect for all our teenagers. The upper and lower deck was great for a outdoor dining together. The game room always had someone in it. Pinball machines were a blast. Very neat and organized. The outdoor sport activities were endless! The little ones loved the playground as well. Go the extra mile and rent the new Pontoon boat . It was a huge highlight to be able to take family cruises every day. Mr Howard also allowed us to bring our bass boat and jet ski. Loved having all the kayaks so everyone could get a better view of this quiet beautiful lake. We picked blueberries from one of the small islands and saw lots of loons, hawks, turtles, deer and a bald eagle. One of our favorites things to do in Maine is fish. We had a family tournament between us and the winner caught an almost 4 lb. large mouth bass . The fishing was not a disappointment. Lots of good size fish.My personal favorite feature besides having my family and friends under one roof in such a great place would have to be watching everyone go down the waterside . Sheer Joy ! If you have a large group of people who are not uptight, love to live life as it should be. Can relax ,appreciate good company , can have fun and enjoy many aspects of the Maine outdoors than this is your place. So glad I found it . Thank You Mr & Mrs. Howard we will be back!
There is no other place to assemble a large active family in the northeast that we have discovered. Only 60 miles from Portland Jetport, this Shangri-La is accessible for ALL of my siblings and their progeny scattered across the country. I am the oldest of 6 children and there are 36 members of our extended family. If you need a FANTASTIC spot to bring your family together...THIS IS IT! This chalet has everything we need to keep a very active family engaged and looking forward to the next year. Clean, comfortable, well appointed and relaxing while providing opportunities for daily fun and games. Kayaks, canoes, game room, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball/Kan Jam court, well-stocked fire pit for nightly camaraderie all situated on a gorgeous point of land. The wrap around deck is perfect for outdoor eating and evening laughter. The available pontoon boat is great for cruising the pond (REALLY a lake from MY perspective) and my nephew was able to launch his fishing boat and caught many fish during the week for all who wanted to go out (and had a fishing license!). Mr Howard is a gracious and conscientious host who is attentive to our needs on a moment\'s notice. The greatest compliment I can give is that after our second year here, we have decided as a family to do this yearly. THANK YOU for another memorable week!
The chalet in Wayne was the perfect setting for our mini-family reunion centered around our daughter\'s May 2014 graduation from Colby College. With 15 of us representing four families (ages 10-55), the chalet\'s expansive layout provided lots of lovely gathering spaces, yet privacy when needed. With two full kitchens and three refrigerators, we were able to easily feed our large group. Nearby downtown Winthrop had everything needed to supplement our stay--a Hannafords grocery store, a pharmacy, a yummy ice cream shop and cute diners. The location was reasonably central to the Portland airport, shopping in Freeport, golfing in Belgrade Lakes and Colby College where we participated in fun family graduation festivities like the Lobster Bake and the Family Ball. Although the weather was still a bit crisp in late May, we enjoyed kayaking on Wilson Pond, a pick up game of basketball on the sport court and a BBQ on the deck. As importantly, the home was very clean and well maintained with comfy beds and a fully stocked kitchen. The owner, Lee, was a pleasure to work with and accommodated our needs with regard to the Colby graduation (including making sure it was ready for occupancy prior to Memorial Day weekend). Our guests/extended family all commented on what a wonderful Maine experience it was! Hope to have the opportunity to return again.
We just returned from a great week in Maine thanks to Lee and Mary and Mary Howard. This was our second year renting the house. We had all of our kids, spouses, grandchildren and my 90 year old Mom - 19 of us. The house is a perfect fit for us - especially the lower level where the little ones could play and watch videos and give the adults a break. The kitchen has everything you could want or need in the way of utensils and appliances. Lee added a full length basketball court this year and we all enjoyed it. The pontoon boat is the highlight for our family. We take it out at least once a day with all the kids so that they can swim and dive into the lake and even do a little fishing. The Howard\'s have done everything possible to make our stays fun and memorable

Our group of 23 recently spent a week at the chalet and had a great time. While the house was large enough to sleep all of us, we might have benefited from another bathroom or two, due to our large group size. The best part about our stay at the chalet was the water access. We spent hours swimming, sliding into the water off the dock, kayaking, and boating on the pontoon boat. One of our boys even caught a fish right off the dock. Our group played basketball, tennis, and went for a few runs during the week. We also made a lot of use of the ping pong table. We also enjoyed the nearby hike to Mt. Pisgah and the lobster rolls from Tubby\'s. Lastly, the owner Lee was easy to work with and very responsive. We had a couple maintenance issues (and a power outage) and Lee and his caretaker were quick to help us. I would recommend this rental for large groups looking for a down to Earth, comfortable, spacious lake side home that has excellent water access.
Every summer we plan a vacation with as many of our friends and family as possible. This year we decided to try a lake in Maine rather than the ocean at Cape Cod for our destination. After emails back and forth from our various locations around the country, the vote was for the beautiful chalet on Wilson\'s Pond for our week\'s escape. We all gathered there in July. There were 19 of us, varying in age from 70 to 4. The chalet functioned beautifully for that many people of different ages and interests. Our airline pilot transitioned to pontoon boat captain for our leisurely cruises around the lake and, in spite of our many adventures, our doctor was not needed. All 8 children headed right for the waterslide and never tired of splashing into the lake with enthusiastic cries. The house was wonderfully equipped for cooking, sports, playground adventures, or a quiet place to get away and we never felt crowded or bored. A large group hiked nearby Mount Pisgah and we ventured out for an ice cream and groceries a few times, but felt no need to leave our beautiful location. By weeks end we had all tried kayaking, the kids swimming skills had improved considerably, and we never wanted to leave. The vote was unanimous to do it again next year!
Just returned from renting the week of 8/13-8/20, 2011. The Chalet was incredible to say the least. Plenty of room for all for sleeping. Rained for a day and a half after arrival, but have no fear the game room was fantastic and kept us so busy we forgot it was raining. There was no lacking of anything you needed. And the kids went crazy when they found the two waffle irons for breakfast. We have been vacationing as a large family for the past 12 years and this home was truely the best ever. Wilson Pond/Lake is perfect for cruising in the pontoon boat. And swimming was great as well. We would spend hours out boating. And of course don\'t forget the kayak races. So much to do, so many good memories. If you are looking for a great vacation home for a large family or group this is it!
My family had it\'s annual reunion at the Chalet and everyone loved it. Very well equipped. With 20 people ranging from 3 to 84 it\'s hard to keep up with shopping and meals but the 3 refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, and great stove made things much easier. The lake has some nice large mouth bass but make sure you bring some weedless lures.
We visited several properties before selecting this chalet in Wayne, Maine, to hold a family reunion. Many online rental properties fail to live up to their internet billing. However, this property not only lives up to it, but in many ways exceeds it! This is a gorgeous property in a great location. Our group was made up of 9 adults, 5 children, and 3 dogs, and there were plenty of areas for all to gather. If you got tired of basketball, volleyball, the game room, swimming, boating, and fishing, you could always kick back on either of the huge decks and read a book. The playground was great for the youngsters, and the firepit at the water\'s edge was a big hit at night. Another big plus - the owner Lee Howard was very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Make sure you bring enough food & drink to last the week, because once you arrive, you will not want to leave!
We held our 10th annual Family Vacation at The Chalet this year and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Our family is 10 eight adults and 9 kids; ages 2 months to 15 years, from all over the country. The condition of the house was spectacular with comfortable furniture throughout and plenty of everything. Bring your own food, clothes and beach towels; everything else is there! The little kids loved “Howard Park.” (A playground decked out with all the toys and playground equipment) The fishermen and women were delighted with the fish, the docks and the boats. The kayakers were thrilled. The pleasure boaters loved the quiet lake and even the rainy days were a joy with all the Chalet had to offer. The Game Room kept the attention of the kids and the spacious upper and lower main rooms provided plenty of space for group activities, exercise class, charades, jig-saw puzzles and general relaxing. One day, all 19 of us drove to Booth Bay Harbor and following a successful whale watch expedition we had a terrific dinner at the Lobster Dock right on the harbor. Lee and Mary Howard and their kids have built a beautiful home and outfitted it with everything you need to enjoy a care free time. We were delighted to be able to share it this summer. Thank you Howards! Marty Palumbos Rochester NY”
My family just returned from renting the Chalet for a week. We had 10 adults and four children (age 10 mos. to 10 years) in our group, and everyone had a wonderful time. The fishing in the lake is beyond anything we\'ve seen. Everyone who fished caught huge bass, perch, and pickerel. Definitely rent the boats, especially the pontoon, which provided lovely family cruises on the lake. The home is gorgeous and well-maintained, with plenty of room--it\'s even more spacious and beautiful than the pictures represent. Even on rainy days, the game room entertained the kids.I would recommend this rental to anyone without hesitation. You\'ll have a wonderful, memorable time.
We just spent a week at the Wayne chalet with 8 adults and 10 kids ages 1 -10. It rained a lot while we were there, but the house is large enough that we didn\'t feel crowded. The game room with free pinball machines, ping pong, air hockey, and fooseball was a blast! When it wasn\'t raining, we were using the kayaks and canoes as well as swimming. Life jackets for all the boaters are provided! The lake water was comfortable even in August. And the fishing off the docks was great fun for the kids who caught tons of sunnies, perch and several 20\" bass! It was very exciting!! The waterslide was very popular. And all the playground equipment got good use. It was as good as going to the local park and it was all right there at the chalet. Our kids normally like a beach vacation, but after a week at the chalet, they all agreed that a lake house vacation was great fun and they\'d do it again!
Just returned from a wonderful, memorable vacation. 3 families enjoyed the comfort of this house. Had a total of 19. 6 adults, 13 kids (ages 10-18), + 1 dog. House included enough dock space for our 3 boats. All of us can\'t find ONE bad thing to say about this beautiful, well maintained house located right on the lake. The gameroom was perfect during our one day of rain. Lake is full of white perch, everyone caught lots of fish. Took a few day trips to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor & Booth Bay. Great house location, close to the coast, yet really secluded. The night sky was breathtaking - millions of stars! We all hated to come home.
Our group of five families (10 adults and 11 kids, ranging in age from 3-11) had a FABULOUS time at this wonderful house. The location is terrific, the house is so comfortable and well-appointed, and it was great for us all. We\'ve been vacationing together for almost 20 years, and this is probably the best rental we\'ve ever had. Can\'t wait to return.
We recently rented this chalet with the whole family to celebrate a special family event and had a wonderful time. There were 17 of us in all ranging from age 3 to age 76. The house was comfortable, clean and spacious, and the large kitchen and great room were a welcome focal point. It was the perfect location for our family affair and there was something for everyone to do. We particularly appreciated all of the well stocked activities to keep children, young and old, busy, including playground, tetherball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, waterslide, canoes, kayaks, fishing or just lounging on the decks or the floating dock. The game room, complete with old fashioned pinball machines, was the highlight of our evenings, with alot of good natured family competition occurring in fooseball, airhockey and ping pong. The local area was also perfect for biking and we found decent tennis courts nearby. It was like camp, but on a family sized scale. its not fancy, there are mosquitos and flies and you are in the middle of nowhere. But for a big family or group looking to spend an active week together in a private lakefront location, this is a great place.
This was our second year in Wayne with the whole(!) family. It was a pleasure to return to such a well maintained property. The lake is beautiful with plenty to do for everyone. Even with so many people you can still find a quiet spot in and around the house for a little solitude. Joey and his wife are wonderful and feel like part of the family! We\'ll definitely be back.
